Spring Reset: My Gentle Approach to a Natural Detox.

At last we're moving out of winter! Heavier foods, slower routines, darker days, time indoors… it can all leave us feeling a bit sluggish, and our skin a bit dull. That’s why I like to do a simple spring reset. Nothing extreme, just a natural way to support the body in doing what it’s designed to do. Here’s how I approach a gentle, effective detox at this time of year...

Start with food: keep it light, fresh, and nourishing

For me, it always begins with what’s on the plate. I focus on foods that are easy to digest and full of nutrients:

  • Lots of green vegetables – think broccoli, spinach, rocket, courgette

  • Fruits – berries, apples, pears

  • Good quality protein – eggs, fish, lentils

  • Whole foods – keeping things as unprocessed as possible

I naturally reduce things that can slow the body down:

  • Sugar

  • Alcohol

  • Caffeine (or at least cut back a little)

  • Heavily processed foods

It’s not about stopping all the fun stuff, more about about giving your body a bit of breathing space.

Support with natural supplements

I often bring in a few gentle supplements to support the process:

  • Milk thistle – traditionally used to support liver function

  • Dandelion root – great for digestion and gentle detox support

  • Magnesium – helps with energy, sleep, and overall balance

  • A good probiotic – to support gut health - I like to use Biokult's Everyday supplement

  • Balm's Detox tea taken twice a day

I always say: keep it simple and choose good-quality, well-sourced products.

Hydration is everything

This is the one people underestimate most. I aim to drink plenty of water throughout the day and often add:

  • Warm water with lemon in the morning

  • Herbal teas like peppermint, nettle, or ginger. The Balm range of blended herbal teas is great too!

It makes a huge difference to energy, digestion, and skin.

Lifestyle matters more than you think

A detox isn’t just about food—it’s about how you live day to day. I try to:

  • Get outside for fresh air and gentle movement every day - 15 miunutes is better than zero minutes!

  • Prioritise sleep (this is when the body does a lot of its repair work)

  • Take a bit of time to slow down—even 10 minutes of quiet can help

Stress can put the brakes on all the good work you’re doing, so keeping things calm and manageable really matters.

Keep it realistic and kind

The most important thing? Don’t overcomplicate it. A natural detox doesn’t need to be extreme or punishing. In fact, the gentler it is, the more sustainable—and effective—it tends to be.

I think of it as a reset rather than a restriction. A chance to tune back in, support the body, and move into spring feeling lighter and more energised.
